"The Extra Man" is a quirky dramedy (from writer/directors Pulchini and Springer-Berman best known for "American Splendor") that follows Louis Ives (Paul Dano), a lonely writer (with a secret) who moves to New York City and rents a room from Henry Harrison (Kevin Kline), an eccentric playwright and social escort for wealthy widows. The two men form a unique relationship.

Even with some laughs the film has a gloomy tone…similar to “American Splendor.”
